Regenerative Medicine for the Spine

Spine surgery is tiptoeing toward stem cells and regenerative biologics. Clinicians are now evaluating new regenerative products in spine surgery on an experimental basis to slow the degenerative process of an injured intervertebral disc or regenerate a damaged disc. There are similar interests in treating arthritic facet joints, and, of course any ability heal an injured spinal cord or nerve carries with great potential. People are very excited about the thought of using stem cells in regenerative medicine, but spine researchers and clinicians need to tread efficiently but carefully using a sound scientific basis.  Forward progress is beautiful.
More to come.
